Warsaw introduces The Clean Transportation Zone

clean transport zone

At July 1, 2024, Warsaw introduced Poland’s the first Clean Transport Zone (SCT). This is a specially designed area where only vehicles that meet certain emission standards can drive. Introduction of the SCT is aimed at improving air quality in the city and reducing the negative impact of transportation on the environment.

The Clean Transportation Zone in Warsaw is the first of its kind in Poland. It is a demarcated area where only vehicles that meet the relevant emission standards are allowed to drive. This area covers an area of 37 square kilometers, which extends mainly through the City Center and some central districts of Warsaw. This is a key area of the city, where the concentration of automobile traffic is greatest and air pollution is most acute. The rules of the SCT are simple – only vehicles that meet certain emission standards can enter the zone.

Under the regulations, gasoline cars older than 1997 and diesel vehicles manufactured before 2005 will not be allowed to enter the SCT. The introduction of these restrictions is aimed at eliminating the most emission-intensive vehicles, which will help improve air quality. Violation of these rules carries a fine of up to 500 zlotys. The condition for entry into the SCT is to have appropriate emission standards, which has a significant impact on reducing air pollution in the center of Warsaw. In addition, regular inspections are planned to enforce the new regulations.

The introduction of the Clean Transportation Zone in Warsaw is an important step towards sustainable development and environmental protection. By introducing the SCT, Warsaw is setting an example for other cities in Poland. The long-term benefits of such measures may include not only improved air quality, but also an overall improvement in public health and quality of life for residents.
